hi, Illistrator cs2 question... cant find color range to delete 1 color background

hi

im totally new to photoshop/ illistrator,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to access the Color Range in illistrator cs2

I have a black and white picture on a layer and i want to delete the white background... but i dont really know how to do it. Says to do it in the Color Range but i cant find it?

Any information would be greatly appreciated and ty in advance
