Hi,
I'm new this forum because i really need to upgrade my photoshop skills. I'm english but currently live in soggy Bangkok. I move around a lot so web design is the best job in the world when you need to take your work with you. I've found a website that i really like the background of and i want to know how to recreate that background because i haven't a clue how to even start.

As this is my first post, i can't send you the url of the page where i have seen the effect so i have attached a screen shot. Any pointers in the right direction would be really helpful. I want to create the greeny blue background box.

TIA x

Hi Birdie

Welcome to PhotoShop Gurus

The way i see it, you gonna need a texture in this case some kind of old grunge paper,
Paper Grunge Textures.

grunge_example.jpg

Then in order to painted like that you could desaturate the grunge image and create a new layer on top set the blend mode to overlay, and use any color whit a big soft brush and start painting over some areas, for other colors you can do the same until you filled the whole image.

Always paint every color on his individual layer, and the just lower the layer opacity as needed.

There's some other ways to achieve this, like gradient fills, color fills, etc. But this will be the easy one.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your quick reply, i will try what you suggest this evening, i'm getting an idea now of what i should be searching for on google for tutorials too, so i'll learn something new anyhow tonight whatever the outcome :) Birdie
