Hi all :) Hope you are all well. Let me introduce myself, because I'm not here just to leech info lol. I'm Neil, I live in Sunderland, I'm 40 years old and I've just acquired Photoshop and want to learn.
I created a logo for a friends Facebook page with an online logo creator and I enjoyed making it, and also enjoyed the feedback I got from the people that seen it, so it inspired me to push further into graphic creation.
So as a simple starter I want to recreate the attached image into a good high resolution image. I want to know if I need a brush tool, or if I need to create it from scratch. I've tried to lasso the image, but it was a screenshot from a poor quality screengrab, I want higher res.
I am usually a very quick learner, and I know PS takes a LOT of learning. So please. If you can, teach me how to make this shape...

Using the pen tool would be perfect and simple, look on youtube for a "pen tool tutorial"

that should shove you in the right direction

As above, but illustrator would give you the crisp edges you desire.

Excellent. Not many brand new Photoshop users want to get in to the pen tool. It is tricky at first.

Come back and show us what you're making with it

The tutorial was excellent, picked up many pointers from it. I ended up making this Facebook timeline cover for a friends group...

Thanks for showing us! Nice.

The only suggestion I have is to move the shapes and the text down. It would balance better if it was centered top to bottom. Of course, the top of your image could be cut off I suppose.

I lied, one other thought. Depending on what you aim to achieve, you might consider blurring the bridge picture a bit and sharpening the storm of light medallion. I like the way you blended them into each other.

I'm glad you came to us for help.
