Hi and help with opening images for layers

Hi,
I can not get photoshop to open multiple imgaes together on the workspace so that I can turn theminto multiple layers for instance I have a banner one layer and an image can't open up image in the same area or create two layers or three etc sorry if this is a dumb question but I can't find basic info anywhere Thanks

Yes the images are all separate files I need them to be layers in the same photoshop doc so I can merge them do transparencies etc. They show up in the work space as separate files if minimized they all show but can not do anything with them I got them by going to file >open or file>recent open I can make the first one a layer but not the resto of them

Try this...
I have CS4 and this is what I do. Open Bridge up. Select the files that you want to be layers in your document by control clicking the files. Then, go to the menu bar and select Tools -> Photoshop -> Load photos into Photoshop Layers

This should do what you want!
