Hi a question about copying a web site design?

Hi I am a amatuer web designer working in web design business and I was wondering if you surf the web , you visit sites and like their design and set up are you allow to built a site of your own copying the other web sites design. I don't mean copying exactly pixel for pixel / code for code but very close different colors and minor changes to design.. is this legal or does it break some standard of web designs?

Everything that can be done, in design, has been done. Not to mention the existance of free web templates available on the internet.
It really boils down to a question of your personal philosophy regarding creativity. Would you be happy copying someone elses work?
Would you be satisfied using a pre-designed template? If your answer is 'yes', then what can be said...many people do it. If your answer is 'no' then don't do it and design your own website. Borrowing ideas isn't a bad thing. just a bit lazy and very 'uncreative'. But not illegal.
