Helpppp creating a logo

Hi everyone.... I am trying to create a simple shield logo, but everytime I create the shape, the bottom half comes out distorted (not sharp)
I was wondering if someone could help me create a sharp finishing product. I have tried alot of tutorials/video but they all come out the same.
I must be doing something wrong

Some kind of example would be nice, especially as I am fairly sure there are shield shapes as standard in photoshop ??
