Hey All,

A Photoshop shortcut that has proved extremely helpful for me has been " control, shift, alt, E ". Not sure if it's a hotkey technically if it requires the use of 4 fingers, but it basically merges all of your visible layers into a single "new" layer....very different from the standard merge all command which flattens the whole image. With this shortcut, you have an quick and easy way of making a composition while retaining all of your layers.

Hope this tip helps others as it did me,

OK, but why does everybody use the shift key? I just use ctl + alt + e and I get a copy-merged layer. Any difference?

OK, the above is a copy-merge for selected layers, not for all layers below one selected layer.
