Photoshop (CS3) I can't get the type tool to work like it usually did. I just get a straight line. What am I doing wrong?

Check the font size is not 0.01pt

The font size is 14, The computor is Mac Intel core 2 Duo os 10.6.8, Thanks for responding

HAve you set the type tool or switched it to type mask tool option maybe. Or you have to small of a text box or maybe your image size is so large that size 14 type will not show

How do you set the type tool or switch it to type mask tool option, I have tried with text box and tried it with just starting to type with the same result, a line, in the layer window the layer has the word I typed, but it doesn't appear on the document. Thanks

right hand click the type icon you should get a drop down of 4 selecttions
horizontal type
vertical type
horizontal mask type
vertical mask type
Just select horizontal type tool and make sure your colour is also set to stand out from what your typing on

how do you set the type tool or switched it to type mask? I have used image box and also just put the started typing, in either case just a line appears, but the layer window shows the word I typed. Thanks

Here is what our admin Steve often suggests:

Reset the Preferences file.
Start Photoshop and immediately hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows)
or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS X).

Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file"

At least it's one more ting to try.

reinstall perhaps? if you have a legit disk i think reinstallations shouldn't give you too much of an issue

oh and for the record, "help" as a title is a bit uninformative, a better title would be "my text tool isn't working on PSCS3 how do i fix it?"
