Help with this black/white text difference effect?

Hello, I have been trying to achieve this effect with the difference colour setting and it doesn't seem to be working. If anyone could please help me achieve this effect, I would be very greatful!

Kieran, Just in case your having trouble following Martins tutorial, which I realized that it could be confusing after I just watched it again, I broke it down to much simpler terms for easier understanding.

Here is a screenshot of the layers panel using Martins (simplified) method. Instead of using the layer style (with color overlay) I just used simple black and white text. No need to change the blend modes, everything is set to normal. Also notice that the Black and White text layers are linked. You can do this by highlighting one, press and hold control/command, and mouse clicking the other. Then right click and select link layers. Now when one of these two layers are selected, you can use the move tool to move the text around and it will change to the opposite color when it passes over the line of the Black and White background.
