Hi,

I would be so greatful if anyone could help me with shadows. I want to put a shadow on half of the face (like in the picture). I've got Photoshop CS3 and I tried various tutorials and I can't simply do this. I follow the instructions but changes don't appear on the picture.

I just don't know why is it happening. If someone could explain me how to do this it would be awesome!

List the tutorials you have tried.

I know you can't post links yet, but do them this way....

Okey so I’ve tried :
photoshopgurus dot com / forum / photoshop-newbies / 37191-how-make-kind-shadow dot html
photoshop-tutorials dot wonderhowto dot com / how - to / create - dramatic - portrait -adobe - photoshop - 338115 /
digitalimagemagazine dot com / blog / featured / photoshop - tutorial - add - dramatic -lighting - to - portraits /
photoshopgurus dot com / forum / general - photoshop - board / 22181 - how - create -face - shadow dot html
I followed what they said but my picture never looked as in the turtorial.

This is going to take some good Brush Tool work! Ok, here's one of two suggestions. I would make a duplicate of the original. Go to the half moon Icon at the bottom of the layers panel, which is a New Fill or Adjustment layer, and add a curves adjustment layer. Make it fairly dark.

Select/highlight the curves adjustment layers.....layer mask. It should have white brackets around it. Select your Brush tool. Select a soft brush. Set your brushes flow to 3. Set your foreground color to black. And begin brushing in the highlighted areas.

Sorry EDIT: I put in the wrong photo.
After the Curves adjustment, it should look like this.....

When you start brushing, it will look like this.
This is only after a few minutes work..

Then like the video suggested, I added a new layer, set it to overlay, and darkened the rest of the image.

it still needs some work but I'm tired!

This is my attempt, though I think it's not possible to get the desired effect. The original photo was shot with soft lighting.
Maybe it'll help the OP.
