A newbie says hi to all,

Could be a stupid question but being a real newbie I just need to ask. Unlike using the brush when I could stop any where along the way then continue till finish, I can’t do that with the lasso tool because its line would be burst. Keep holding the click while dragging the mouse till it done, if any mistake else where then I have to do it all over it’s really tiresome to me. Is there a better way ?

depending on image, you could use magic wand to select an area thats lots of practice though. experiment with the tolerance button for it after awhile it really help LOTS. after using wand go back to your lasso tool to retouch. It helps to invert the selection before starting with it........don't forget to revert back

have you tried using the magnetic lasso tool? I'm not sure what your trying to lasso but I tend to use the magnetic one for most of my projects. once you have finnished and you see the "marching ants" then you can alter the selection using the quick selection wand with either the + or - to push out the edge or push it in. hope this helps.

never tried that method,I can't seem to grasp it once I go to quick selection tool it goes hay wire, any suggestions on this method a little more?

once lasso has been used and the marching ants are there then use the quick selection tool like in the pic. if your working from inside the selected area to push the boundry outwards use the "+" wand at the top and if your working from the outside of the selected area to push the selection inwards use the "-" wand. depending on the detail you need to get depends on what brush size you need at the top smaller = more detail but more tricky and time consuming.

you get me? I'm no good with tutorial stuff lol

no keys needed as using? it doesn't seem to do anything for me, I like a challenge, this seems to be worth practicing lol

like when resizing,I use shift key along with mouse

Thanks kellster,

With your method I could give my index finger a break. However, I just feel it less precise than the mere lasso, maybe I need time to get used to.

yeah with time you'll get used to it. you can play arround with the colours to aswell to make the edges more crisp then use my technique to create a layer mask the best way for you to learn is online tutorials there are plenty out there!

The lasso is good for quick selections that don't have to be that accurate, but 9x out of 10 I just end up using quick mask or the pen tool. I prefer to use the pen to create a path and then convert it into a selection. That way I don't have to mess around with all the issues that you describe here. Cheers.

Have you tried Quick Mask Mode?

Another tip: As you're using the magnetic lasso, and it hits a point you don't like or goes haywire, hit the backspace key and it will remove your last point(s).
