Hello! I am trying to get the effect that is on the bottom of this invitation. How can I go about that? I have a textured stock photo to create the texture but I'm struggling with how to do the faded multi-color bottom. Thanks!

I presume you are talking about going from the lightly smudged tan paper texture to the more smudgy, dirty green area at the bottom?

If so, do you know about layer opacity masks? Layer blending modes? Have you ever made the layer mask itself have structure, not just (say) a simple gradient?

It probably would be best if you would post one of your attempts along with the starting stock images you used. Probably, the easiest way to do this is by posting a PSD file. It doesn't have to be the entire image, just a vertical rectangle showing either the extreme right or left side of the page would be enough.

sashabz, just checking to see what you think of this before I explain it....

edit: This is supposed to be paper, but it looks more like stone to me here! LOL!! I must have clicked the wrong texture. I need a nap!

Fairly simple...

I took the original layer and duplicated it.
I then desaturated the duplicate.
I added a Curves Adjustment layer and darkened the duplicate.
If it needs to be darker add a Color Fill layer of black and lower the opacity.

I then then merged all the duplicate layers into one layer.
Place the merged layer above the normal original layer and add a layer mask.
Use the Brush Tool to reveal the area you desire.
