Help with blank PSD file...

Hey, I'm new here but I've been using Photoshop for a little bit. I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem:

I received a PSD file from a client that I want to pull an image from. When I open the file there is a background layer and Layer 1, but in the layer window they're both blank. However, on the screen is the image I need. I try to select the image, or use lasso or wand but it treats the image as a blank image (no matter what layer I'm on). Even when I drag and drop the image to another file, it comes up blank. The only time I do see it is in the original file, but I can't seem to do anything with it.

Let me know if anyone can help - it would be greatly appreciated!

Are they layers or layersets? There might be multiple layers you're dealing with. Can you post the PSD for us to download? It's really hard to say about weird behavior in a file without being able to actually poke at it. heh

here it is...Thanks for your help! I think it's just layers. The original was large 5 MB so I reduced the image size.

Wow... uh. I looked through the image channels... you have a stack of channels named "PNG"... and if you hide them the image disappears. I think what you have there is a proprietary Fireworks PNG (always thought that was a bad idea) or a corrupt PSD.

If you only need the image. I would put the image at 100% and make a screenshot of it, then paste that into a new, blank PSD.

Thanks! If I need the image for printing (I need it hi-res), then do you think I should get the original file without all of the fireworks PNG to do this instead of a screen grab?

Those are spot color channels. Making a screen grab isn't going to work if you care about the transparency.
If you want to merge it on a white background then select all spot color channels (Ctrl+click) and in the menu of the channels palette select Merge spot channels and switch to RGB if needed.
