Hey, I am trying to learn how take a blurry, pixelated image of a persons avatar in various virtual worlds and make it look almost human...here are some examples of the great work of =Marco=

and then here are my sad attempts
M.pngSight to the Skies.png
NO comparison, his work is crisp, clean, minimal blur, just vastly superior in every way.
So my question is, what program add-on, filter or special powers does this guy have to make his images so great? Any help would be amazingly awesome.
Thanks in advance to anyone who has any info or ideas!

All of these appear to be digital paintings. The first two are painted with greater skill and detail and seem to be higher res than the second two. Do you have the before images of the first two?

I don't have access to the originals of the first two, they are not my work, just the end product of another blog photographer...I see his are better quality then my attempts, I am just trying to find out how...
Is there some filter he might be using or maybe another program all together...We both start in the same 3D program and just take pictures of different avatars on ultra settings and then edit them in Ps, at least I assume he is using Ps, maybe he has an even better program, if so would be nice to know what it is because it is amazing!
Anyway, thanks for the responses!

These are digital paintings and not photographs. Mostly done with Photoshop (or similar program) painting techniques. They may have used photographs as original references though.

Allow me to clarify what I'm really trying to state here. Your use of the term photographs and photographer threw me off.

These image captures from the virtual worlds (Like Second Life) have been altered using Photoshop or a similar program. They are digital paintings and any of the standard painting techniques employed in Photoshop are used to enhance the image.

Take a look at any of these: https://www.google.com/#q=Photoshop+painting+tutorial

I just added some real quick touch ups with the Brush Tool.

Hair, beard, and skin texture.....

Thanks Sam! I will watch a few of the tuts and see if I can better myself. I had no idea what he could be doing to make the skin so much better. Now at least I have some idea of where to start.

Yah none of the tuts I found were helpful at all : [
Most ppl just flash thru on super speed, which is totally pointless except for showing off how good they think they are. Should not even call them tutorials!
The way this is done so perfectly focused and clear with crisp edges will sadly remain a mystery to me for now.

I did look, did searched, have been for a month before coming to this forum to see if anyone else had any ideas!
I have watched a lot of videos on YT and nothing I have seen so far helped me understand what this guy does! I thought he was just taking a picture he grabbed in whatever virtual world he is in and edited it using some filter to make it look that way, I had no idea he starts with nothing, draws the person and paints them from scratch. I am not a good enough artist to be able to do that but thanks for the links anyway.
