Hi, it's been a while since I've posted here but I need your help with something.

I would like help removing Miles Morales' silvery web from the background. I have tried everything possible to separate it, but I haven't been satisfied with the results.

Any assistance you can give me in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Attached will be a red circle around what I need help with, along with a link to the picture as I need help with it.

As you will undoubtedly hear from lots of other people, the real way to do this cutout is using the pen tool.

If you are not facile with the pen tool, the only automated selection tool that I know of that will do a decent job on this image is an old plugin called Asiva Select. As you can see from the attached screen grab, it allows one to select very specific ranges of hue, saturation and brightness. This degree of specificity is necessary for this image because there are large areas of the image that are close to the metal spiral in these variables.

However, even using Asiva Select, the results are far from perfect and need to be touched up. If you do that, you might as well use the pen tool right from the start.

Full-bore, third party commercial selection tools such as Topaz Select and onOne Mask Pro could also do a good job and are semi-automated, but they have a significant learning curve.

HTH,

Here's the problem, the original artist correctly utilized an "out of focus" effect on the silvery web as it approached the foreground. No matter what technique you use to extract the web, you will be left with hard edges where there were soft ones in the original image. Compare Toms extraction with the original.

I would use the Pen tool to select the web (lots of work) and then add back the original blur with the Blur Tool or Smudge Tool.

That shouldn't be a problem if your trying to get rid of the blur and replace it with a more defined piece
Select the peace in the foreground that would be compatible once manipulated warped transformed etc. and some easy tweaks and your golden, unless it's for print then it gets real tricky.
this image still needs work but…….. you get the ideaView attachment 30127

Here is the Tutorial Using Your Image. It may seem Complicated, but before You know it, You'll be doing Stuff like This All the Time in Photoshop. This was done in CS2 so don't worry about having an Older Version of Photoshop if You Do? http://bit.ly/10cwrbp

I express my sincere regret for taking so long to respond to you guys. Yesterday was my birthday so I was gone for most of the day.

But thank you to those who took the time to help me out, especially for those who made tutorials. And I will try the methods you guys have suggested and see how the results go.

But thank you all again.

And please come back and share your results, don't become a stranger.

Here the Tutorial. I don't think everyone can download it from my g-mail account.
