Hi,

I've got a couple of posts on here to try and help/instruct on how to achieve some effects i have found whilst looking across some designs. I think the attached maybe quite easy but i have tried and failed to get it spot on. Can anyone help?

Many thanks

There are quite a few effects going on in the above image. Why don't you show us what you have done already, and we can work from there.

Hi Tom, i really have just been playing around with the saturation and film grain and its quite a bad effort! I have attached the original image im trying to work on... should i just give up? :)

No, don't give up. But I would suggest you post a jpeg of your work instead of the psd. Some of us are too lazy or don't want to chance a virus by opening a document from an unknown member. Just be safe and play our game!

@Clare - FWIW, I'm confident enough in my malware protection that I downloaded and scanned his PSD file without any sign of infection. It opened just fine.

@OP - Initially, I wasn't sure if "the effect" you wanted to reproduce was the pastel tones, the vertical lines of varying width, the typography, or the stippled B&W image of the player. With respect to the latter, there have been several threads here on PSG over the last few years that discuss how to do this using native PS tools. Unfortunately, I don't have the time at the moment to dig them up, but I will point out that there are some plugins that will get you close more-or-less automatically, particularly,

Unfortunately, this one is not cheap, but there are others, such as VanDerLee's "halftone" that can be made to do similar efx.

HTH,

Yep I'm just lazy I guess. But really some people just don't want to follow pic links or open files. They don't all care to scan them first. You geeks do it as a matter of course. I'm a dyed in the wool Luddite. Well, at any rate, I still have a Dumb Phone.

Tom, you are 'THE MAN', thanks again for top tips and advise on where to look! I will post up and let you see my end results :) Clare, thanks also for your input, there wasn't much to see on the file attached, i will put up a jpg when i have had more of a play.
