I need some help with figuring out the type of 'filter' that is used on the image attached.

Krejci-1920x1200[1].jpg

I am looking primarily at the image of the player on the left. I do realize there is a grainy layer overlaying on the whole image. But it still seems like there is some type of lighting effect on it as well. I just cant for the life of me put it into words in order to search for a similar technique.

Any advice would be extremely helpful.

I don't think this particular look is covered in the sticky thread referenced above, so here's how I would approach it.

I would turn the original image into a highly detailed sketch such as this ...

kevin_sprouls_hockey_player.jpg

or the 2nd sketch I posted in this thread:
http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum...-effect-something-similar.html#post1533655932 (the plugin I used is in the file name for each of my images).

I would then blend the B&W sketch with a version of the original color image adjusted to have lower contrast and saturation. The final step, as you pointed out would be the addition of a bit of grain, or even better, paper texture.

HTH,

Tom
