Have you added any filters to your photoshop I ask because I have practically every good filter and have not come across it but will have a play with photoshop filters if you have not got any 3rd party plugins etc.

or you have made lots of square selections copied onto a new layer and played with bevel and emboss and used a grey shado unlike the black 1 in my pic

Closest I can get in a simple ways is duplicating the image then go to filter > texture> patchwork then mask out your buddy but I am sure there is more to it than that as you cant make the patch boxes as big as yours

i havent added any filters it was just me randomly tryin different filters to be honest! i didnt make any square selections, whatever filter i used it went from the original backround straight to the box one

Hi charlie_gti

What you need is an inbuilt PS filter called "extrude" on Filter>Stylize>extrude, this filter will create squares or pyramids from your picture, and then extrude them to give you a 3d look fx, you can control squares, size and extrusion deep randomly or level based, see example below.

extrude_00.jpg

Play whit settings in order to achieve the desired fx.

This may help,Abstract extrusion

Also you will need a layer copy of the original image placed on the bottom, then, on the extruded image on top you will need to use a layer mask, to paint on it, and recover certain parts of the original unaltered image, like in this case your friend's image, on the center of the picture.

Have fun.

try your bits settings it's in 32 which I am in at the moment

nope not it, I just checked out of curiosity
are you in cmyk?

I only have 64 bit version installed is that the reason or have i accidentally deleted some filters whenever i reinstall software it is from a disk image so if I have deleted them in the past for whatever reason then I need to reinstall photoshop from disc. and create a new image.
