Help: Making A Save Action

LTNS all! Man glad this place is still here. :)

Using PS7 I need to make an action that allows me to type in a different name each time when saving a file. Ya... this is basic but I just can't seem to get it.

More detail is... I have a .psd file that gets changed and then saved from 5 to 15 different ways to another computer on a network. The problem is being able to save the file as a number from "500" to "1299." Is there another way to do this without having an action for each number?

Any help is welcome.

Thanks
James

Someone asked a similar question a while back and I couldn't figure an Action because it involved the finder for re-naming.

But you should be able to figure out something from the Batch Rename function in the Browser.

You can rename and number a folder of files to a new destination folder.

It might be better to save to a folder on the same computer then transfer that folder in its entirety to your server.

almost perfect...

Hey thanks!

It is close to what I need. What I end up with is an "Action" that saves the file across our network to another pc at a temp number (exp: 1200.tga) and then opens the file browser. I still have to "right-click" and "rename" (exp: 1201.tga) but it still saves a good bit of time...

If there is a better way then speek up folks. *S*

Long live PS Guru's!!!

Are you navigating to the image with your action?

If you navigate to the enclosing folder (or possibly select all) you should be able to Batch the lot in one go.
The files will be conscutively numbered and then sent to the destination folder.

yes, the batch rename as the name suggests can be applied to several images..
you need to choose, in one of the fields, "serial number".

But, do you know how to rename FROM a given number? ;) (ex: image253.jpg, image254.jpg...)

Hiya stranger, :D

I was wondering about that little problem.
How about sticking a 'dummy' file with the 'start from minus 1' in the destination folder? \:]

I had a look to see if there was an editable text string but couldn't find one.

Cheers, Al.

Hehe, bowmorer!
The (hidden) trick is to enter the starting number between "sharp" ( #) signs:
For instance to number with three digits starting from 083, you need to type in:
#083#
As one of the rules for the renaming process.
(found this one at about.com between two pop up windows ;) )

Ha! No fair! Double Bowmorer! :P

no googles, have you seen your avatar? ;)

Hey I didn't google for this question, I found it before :D (try photoshop+undocumented ;) )

Ps. talisker is good too!

:bustagut: It's called 'Doing the Shooglie Googlie'.

I'll try the PS undocumented later. :B

It would be quicker listing the bad tasting one. \:]

nice find PEC :)
