Christmas hasn't been a good period for my father. Three guys with a van broke into his store and stole many of his products (he sells wielding torches), causing major economic damage just right before Christmas. They probably didn't think a camera would spot them, since my father's shop is in a quite street, but we got some pictures of them. The police has yet to come up with anything, 10 days after the incident, but it's not like they want to try, based on their reaction to the theft. I would be grateful if anyone could help me by enhancing the pictures I will attach, in order to identify their van or even tell me if there is anything I can do to help my old man. Thanks in advance for your interest. Happy Holidays!

Hello Alexander and welcome to PSG. I'm very sorry for your fathers losses.

Photographs and still frames from video footage are based on information in the form of pixels. If that pixel information is not present in the original image, then it can not be restored. Missing or lost information is lost forever. Photoshop can slightly sharpen the information that's present in the image, but it has never had the ability to predict, rearrange or add missing information. It's just not possible.

There have been some algorithms that claim to restore missing information as you might see on TV shows, but they are only creating new information based on simulated guess work of the existing pixel information and may or may not be accurate.

I'm very sorry.

It's ok! I knew it was a long shot given the quality of the photos is terrible, but I was literaly furious at the police officer who was in charge of the investigation so I tried to "do what he wasn't doing". I guess we have to wait and see! At least just this morning (about 4 hours ago, here in Greece) the insurance told my father they will pay him some money. It's not too much but at least he can spend his hollidays a little less stressed! Thank you Sam, for trying to help me and giving me the chanve to ask for help on this forum! Happy Holidays! Be well! :)
