Hey, I'm glad I stumbled into this website... I hate that my first post is a question, but that's how it is today.

I am working with this image: (it wont let me post the image or a full link)

I don't like the plain white background and I want to, I guess, paste it on top of a high-tech looking background. I found the one I want to use already and saved it to my PC.

How would I go about doing that?

Thanks so much!!

If I could just take away the white from the Terminator image and show the rest of the stuff on the gray background thats what I am trying to do right now. I have no idea how to do this or what it's called. Hope someone knows ^^

Open your background layer.
Drag over your terminator layer, it should be the top layer.
Use Select|Color Range and click on the white area.

You said you have CS5.
The selection you make with Color Range will probably be good enough but if you need to fine tune it check out this video.

http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/photoshop-tutorial-videos/28640-photoshop-cs5-refine-edge.html

Press the Delete key to delete the white background.

Thanks for the link for the refine edge tutorial, and I just finished watching it and tried it myself, but I've got a small question if you don't mind pls!
I tried it on a pretty detailed picture of a fur hat (courtesy of google of course), selected the hat and did the refine edges...
The original image had it on a white background, so when I selected it, fiddled around with the settings to grab as much detail as I could, it looked quite good..
But when I created the output as a selection, copied as new layer, then changed the background to black, I see that the refined edges detail wasn't quite as I was expecting, as in, with a lot of white from the original left between the furs in the form a blurs..
I've attached a picture of my failed attempt..
Any ideas?? Thanks in advance ^^

Actually, the top is OK, but what went wrong with the bottom?? Did I select too vaguely at the start?..

It definetly takes a lot of practice. I have begun looking over as many tutorials as I can to learn. Still not getting the results I want but with time I will.

yeah, he attached an image, but in his message there's a link to a website. I don't know why, but my virus detection software went crazy after I went to that site.

could you link me to this post you refer please?

This link?

It's just a link to an image on imageshack. I wouldn't intentionally infect anyone. I did just remove a virus from my system not 15 minutes ago, but I doubt it could be passed through an image at imageshack?

I went to that page a couple of days ago and had no problem, I went back again just now and I saw what Petit Photoshopper was talking about.

Petit Photoshopper, that was a pop up not a real scan on your computer.
I'm pretty sure you're OK, just close your browser.

That scam here is to get you to click on a link that will "remove" the virus.
THAT'S the virus.

k1ll, not to worry.
I removed the links in this thread and suggest you get your terminator image someplace else.

Something happened to that site in the last couple of days.

if using cs5 try selecting white background via color range "highlights" once selected white background press delete key and will get rid off all the white color on image "for more detailed and soft edges, on color range menu try playing whit fuzziness slider "

it should work

That's why I didn't see it, steve got there 1st.
