OK. I have a friend who owns a website that offers services in website design, logo design, brochure design, etc..

She has an assignment that has her completely stumped and asked for my help. I really have never done this before and I was real nervous about saying yes... :( But I did it anyway. [excited]

Anway, the client took control of the creative process and requested something specific. Nothing that I created seem to be satisfactory to her. This has been a very difficult process because her request has also restricted the creative process as well.

Anyway, I still have ideas left in my head. However, I am like so totally out of custom shapes to work with. Does anyone know were I can get custom shapes of Hands, Olive Branches, Law or Leagal Symbols, or anything to do with the subject of Mediation? I know that doesn't sound very creative on my part, however, the business of mediation is a very dry subject; therefore, there is not a lot that can be done with it. :\ I even went on mediation websites to get inspired. They had the same problem we are having, and to my shock and surprise, my ideas were better than their's. I never thought that would happen. But at least it got me off my pitty potty. :bustagut:

Is your friend getting paid for this? Did she write up a contract? Did it state how many "reworks" were included for the price?

You might try a search engine for all the terms you posted.

MsOz,

Well, I don't know the answers to any of those questions. I know that she offers her services to ministries on a budget, and is even know to offer her services on a charitable basis.

If I'm not mistaken this person is paying, but is paying on a fixed income. She has both a company that deals with everyday people, and a company that is a christian related company. I didn't ask any details on what that means, I do know it is a christian company but that doesn't always mean it is a church or ministry. Anyway, I don't get paid for it. However, that was my choice.

As far as using a search engine. I've done that. However, I did not check every website it found.

I have a real slow computer. That has a 56K modem, but it goes online at 26K. }:\ It's like having someone raking their nails across a chalk board. [doh]

Anway, I thought if the forum members know by memory a website that offers such things. Perhaps it will move much faster that way. I tried the Adobe Studio Exchange, but I had no luck. :{

Also not sure about your available budget but try places like Clipart.com. It is a pay service but a wonderful price for what you get. They have several formats of files such as psd, wmf, gif, jpg, etc that you can work with. You can pay by the week, month or do an extended run.

Rick,

Well, after looking at the image search results that your link provided, it confimed my suspicions that there are not many symbols that represent that profession. Fortunately, I did a search for Digbats and found what I was looking for on the first page. :righton:

This solves my symbol problem. Now all I have to do is create something that the lady actually wants. She is one of those people that has a vision of what she wants in her head, but doesn't know how to translate that into plan english. The problem with that is your work may be great, but if it doesn't match the vision in her mind, then it is unacceptable.

Lindaw,

That is not a bad idea. However, I am having to save for a new computer. To get the computer that I need will cost about $8,000.00. That doesn't leave me any extra money to work with, and I don't want to sacrafice the money for a one time project that doesn't pay anything. However, when I get my new Mac that is how I will handle business. Everything will be bought and paid for with no strings attached to them. I have learned that when you pay for services you don't have to put up with unwanted and unprofitable hassles. :)

Well, she finally picked the one that she liked. I was surprised to, of all the ones that I made it was the least interesting. It had the nicest colors, and that is what she liked about it. I just don't think it had the most impact. However, that is the one she wants and I am not going to stop her. :righton:

Thanks everyone for your help in solving this problem. :) 8))

That was my first idea. However, it isn't suppose to have a colored background, it was suppose to be just that black outline design.

However, I sent several versions of that idea, and I feel I spent too much time on that one idea. Hey, I've never done this sort of work before so I was really just getting warmed up.

This was the next idea. I thought she would like this one the best. She didn't. :{

That one was done in Illustrator 10.

This next one is one that I liked. I felt it had a lot of symbolic meaning. I never even got to finish it. When finished, the top block would have an olive branch laying on top of it. She never had the opportunity to see it. She made her selection before it was even completed. :{

This is the one that she selected. Keep in mind that I was looking to see how this Custom Shape of a mountain would look. However, I couldn't resist the temptation of finishing it. I thought the colors looked nice and sent it to the person who asked for my help. I myself was thinking, "Maybe it is the mountain she doesn't like." So, I asked if she would like this one better. I was referring to the mountain. The lady selected this particular design. She liked the colors the best. That was why she picked this one. [saywhat]

Now, keep in mind that this logo had to be versatile. It is going to be used in color, greyscale, website, company stationary, print, etc.. With that in mind, if you were that lady and these were your only choices, which one would you pick? \:]
