[HELP] Gift for a friend

Hi everyone,

Photoshop beginner here but trying to create a special gift for a friend who loves the show Parks & Recreation. I'm trying to delete the "Knope 2012" part, fill in the background so it looks normal, and then insert my own text over top in a way that mimics the original text.

I have photoshop cs2 and have no idea how to do this but would love someone's help.

Made a copy of your image painted out the blue central segment, found a new flag on google used the circular marquee tool copy pasted onto the logo converted flag using filter artistic cut out option to blend against the outer stars and swoops, then added text, you just need to find that font and apply it yourself.

Also bear in mind, nooblet, the logo may be copyrighted.

There's need to edit/change the details a bit.....

Thanks Paul that was extremely helpful. I was able to do it all as a beginner so thanks for the easy to follow instructions. The hardest part is finding a font that looks similar and then outlining it in blue. Do you know how i would outline the exterior in that same color blue? And any fonts that look similar?

To add an outline is to stroke the layer. Go to the bottom of the layer panel and click on the fx. Choose stroke, choose outside, and set the pixel width and color you want.
