Is there a better way to delete the background to make it transparent other than with the magic wand tool?

I can't seem to get it done properly, I end off chopping off bits. Help please

First of all, there is really no way that you will be able to preserve the shadows. Those have got to go. It is easily enough reproduced so don't let that worry you.

As for the rest of your problem, the magic wand has pretty limited value. It's partner, the quick select tool does a better job, but you still need to zoom in, check your edges, and use the refine edge command. For a project like this, the only selection tool that will work reliably is the pen tool.Another alternative is select>color range, but it will be hard not to select all the white, and then you have to subtract that selection.

This is an easy pen tool project; the perfect kind of image for learning how to use it. If you need tutorials, let me know. Believe me, you will be glad you spent the time to learn it.

And welcome to PSG. You don't need to post quasi links. You can upload your image by going to the reply window, choose the square icon with the tree image and choose the upload from computer option. Most of our members prefer to see the image rather than follow a link. The other consideration, even more important, is that others may come along with your same question. They'll find your post, but the link will go nowhere, and there will be no image to see.

Thanks usufali; I hope you will post your image now

The pentool done a pretty neat job of this. But like ibclare said, the shadowing had to be put in after.

I'm not saying I done the job for you but this is a result of using the pentool.
