This logo has three different techniques used in it's making.
The first is one of two techniques, either TEXT ON A PATH, or WARPED TEXT.
The green grass was made using the Brush Tool and CREATING A CUSTOM BRUSH with the PEN TOOL.
The dog footprint was made using the CUSTOM SHAPE TOOL and one of the custom shapes that comes with Photoshop.

Here is a quick rough video showoff. (without audio. so you will have to figure out whats going on in the video)
and sorry for hiccups in the middle, i just broke my mouse.
To create grass you can use a custom brush it will be easier for you.
Note: to select the shape you have created with pen tool, press hold press 'ctrl' and click on shape path, you can also try holding 'alt' key to adjust handles.
And as IamSam gave you some very useful links. watch those tutorials and try to recreate effects.
its the only way to learn. practice practice practice.
