My phone case partially blocked the camera and created that big ugly shadow at the top. I don't want to just crop it out because I want to include the sky in the pic.
How do I make it so that the shadow just looks like the sky? I've been trying to just select and edit the colors, filling it in, etc, but it always turns out really weird! I can't make it look seamless if that makes any sense. Can somebody show me how to do it or maybe edit it for me? Thanks!

Ahh I posted the wrong photo in the first post!! This is the original. The one in the first post is one of my failed tries at editing it, haha. I want it so that the purple shadow is completely gone..

Quick mask the lighter sky on the left make copy, repeat same process for right side of sky, place the two new sky layers over the top of the purple mess, soften edges.
Other ways way better, like i said quick mask used - quick result.

Many ways to do this including a sky replacement but if you just want a quick easy fix then just grab the gradient tool create a new layer and do a blue to transparant gradient from top to bottom and mask out the person with a layer mask and set the layer blending mode to color.

As Paul and Hoogle said, there are many ways to do this. In fact, that's one of the most notable things about Photoshop -- there are always multiple ways to do the same thing

In this case, I extracted the sky and then stretched it upwards.

PS - Guys, I'm 3000 miles away from my old reliable photoshop computer and monitor, using a brand new laptop whose screen has never been profiled / calibrated., so, if you see anything weird about the images I post in the next 1.5 weeks, please do let me know about it.

PS - Whoops - I forgot an important step. I should have said: I extracted the sky, filled in the hole left by the person (using content aware fill), and then stretched it upwards. There was a bit of oddness in the result directly above the woman, so I did a bit of patching / dodge / burn on that area. Total time was a couple of minutes.

Guys....this is what is driving another member crazy. I read what the OP posted, and yes the sky looks better. But I cannot see her beautiful eyes...as they are a dark blob.

I am at the family desktop, not my tower of power.....I will try it a bit later.

I must of missed Toms....I see!:redface::redface::redface:

Consider cropping the image and not having her smack in the middle. Something more like this perhaps:

Great technique! I was just playing around with a few other options and this seems to be the most effective by far.
