I've started intensely using Photoshop recently. I am very happy to have joined this forum.

I have a quick question, a trouble-shooting one. I'm not sure if I should post it here but just in case it's easier that way, here it goes...

I was learning earlier how to make planets in Photoshop and came up with a good design. I didn't have to change any settings in Photoshop for it. I went back into Photoshop now to practice the same thing some more and came across a very annoying problem:

I select a circular area with the Elliptical Marquee Tool and then choose Blending Options for the layer and under Inner Shadow I set Screen and then choose my color for the blending. As soon as I do this, instead of affecting the circular, selected area, it instead affects the border of the entire project frame...

I have tried, for example, using the paint-bucket over the circular selection and it works fine. But, whenever I use the blending option, which worked fine when I first created the planet, it now acts in that strange manner.

I have looked everywhere in the program for settings that might've changed but I cannot find it. I really need some help. I appreciate your time in reading this.

Cheers!

Hi&welcome!

Blending options can be used for the active layer not for selections(doesnt matter which area youve selected before). So not a surprise when the inner shadow effect works like you described. If you want to set a new effect for the circle, after selecting it press ctrl+c, create a new layer, press ctrl+v and set the inner shadow using this new layer(which contains only your desired circle).

Hope it helps, and enjoy staying here.

Hey LRG,

Weird... I replied to this but it must've not sent properly... Anyway. Thank you for your help, it worked great. It also led me to find what I had done differently from the first time, which was to not create a new layer after the background had been blackened.

A million thanks, I did a nice little something after you helped me. So, I'll dedicate it to you!

I can't post links yet due to lack of forum posts. But if you go to deviantART and look for Sllapur you will find my account and the latest submission is what I'm talking about.

Cheers!

it is "Seeding life" in your gallery if im right, am i? this case its a nice one, keep it up!

I'm having another issue now. It has to do with the paint bucket, again. Again, I don't think I've changed any settings. What is happening is that when filling a circular selection (yes, more planets!) instead of being a solid fill, it turns out as a faded brush fill, with the color fading to a lighter shade as it irradiates.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sllapur

Welcome to Photo Shop Gurus

Make sure that before you create your selection, you've set your feathering to "0" PX, other ways your selection fill, will end it up whit a soft and not hard edge, "gradient like border"

Hope this helps

hello all,
I am also new in here. I'm mostly into traditional drawing. Will be posting some of my work later on :)
