I'm a self-taught, ex-signature freak pseudo-abstract photoshoper. I use Gaussian blur in everything, and real-life pictures are not my specialty. I'm an amateur writer now (also self taught), so I do not use Photoshop much anymore.

However, I came here for two reasons: to see where I stand (or fall) in the ladder, and to throw some bad taste jokes once in a while.

And now I'll present you guys what I believe is my master piece. I used nothing more than vanilla Photoshop, a cup of coffee and a glass of mil -- I mean, a questionable source image and my beloved Gaussian blur.

Result:

Chrome Blade II.jpg

The only filter applied is a base of chrome, for that is the theme of my image (Chrome Blade II, but it's more like V5)

I spent a lot of time sharpening/blurring/smudgeing(sp?). The eyes where imo the hardest part, I used a random part of the resulting chrome (and even used clone stamp), then reshaped it with smudge, and made it solid by sharpening and blurring the resulting pixelation.

I used gaussian a lot on this one, mainly to soften the lines and give the lighting effects. The blade was extended/reshaped until I was exhausted.

The background is really mostly random abstract crap made in twenty minutes. In the end I used a Gaussian blurred layer (at 12 pt I believe) on top in hard light mode; I tuned the color/light/contrast with it.

And so ends my presentation, it will be nice to spend a few days with you guys. I'm welcomed aboard!

Hi and welcome to PSG.

I like what you have done with this pic. I can tell you spent a lot of time on it. I don't know if you were looking for critique or not, but my input would be to try darkening the background layer so that the viewers eye is drawn more to the character.

As you might have guessed, I am also a big fan of Gaussian blur :)

I think you might like this vid:

That was a really interesting video!

I didn't know gaussian was used in almost every feature I use!

Although, what I do with gaussian layers to balance them is rather the reverse, I manipulate the gaussian layer instead. This kind of allows me to do really subtle changes such as ambient lighting and shadows. Some times I downright brush over it when I need to.

And thanks for the critic, maybe you are right about that. But that was also part of the design.

It's good to know that there is another gaussian fan here! I hope we'll get along!

I though about it for a bit, and you were right. I also toned down the gaussian blur and set it to overlay instead. But it was really easy since there was a very detailed background that I had completely hidden with the fire.

It looks really nice now, thanks a lot for your suggestion!

Way to go, it looks awesome!

Kind of looks like you have some stars in that background now... you could add to that a bit I think it looks good.

Yeah, I use that in almost all my works. They are not stars though, I would describe it more like "star dust". If you look closely, there are more in the bottom and in the middle than at the top. As if they where "floating up"

Thanks for the compliment =D

Welcome to the forums :) nice job on the pic. there is a massive difference between the 2 pics 2nd one is pretty damn good :) not that it is a problem but it seems a lil low rez? good stuff be nice to have a joker around :P

oh, that's because of the forum upload... I have it on deviant art at 1080p. But I can't post links here yet, so if you want to see the full res version you'll need to look me up on elite5472.deviantart.com

and yeah, it's always good to have jokers around! a funny world is a happy world!
