Hi, my name is Melissa and I have a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch, with Photoshop Elements 7. I am not very good with utilizing either to the best of my abilities yet. I am trying to become a better artist, learn how to color, make backgrounds, and shade like the pro's- not very well so far.

Buuuttt!!! I have a question for the Guru's out there, it probably has a simple answer but I am... nearly clueless to the Photoshop program.

I had drawn a line art for a comic I made, a friend decided to color it. It looks awesome to me, but he never told me on how he did it no matter how much I asked him. He referred to me all these unrelated tutorials, so I spent all last night until dawn looking for the answer myself to no avail. I am pulling out my hair now, all I want is a step by step instruction on the tools and effects he used and how he used them... to mimic it for myself. I know about the layers with the mode set on multiply, but... Is there a better way to color or any neat tricks if the answer to my question is very simple?

Can anyone help me? I will post the before and after pics below.

there ae numerous tutorials some on here referring to colouring in black and white photos it is the same principal the key is though not to just paint over the section you want to colour and set the layer mode to colour and move on. you need to do that and the adjust the colour through colour levels and hue saturation then once you have it as close as you can get it you can then start and play with the image as demonsrated by Belial

Hi Melissa Angelene Nemchek

Welcome to PSG, There's not secret or only one key technique on how can you achieve that, it's just a lot of practice and from that you gain experience, which overtime will make you a good artist, here's some paint and shading techniques you may find interesting.

By the way, luckily in our community we got couple of pretty good and experienced artists like Cindy Grundsten you can PM her and ask for advise.

Good Luck
