Hello,

Just joined the forum. I look forward to learning loads from the gurus! :)

I could use a little advice concerning placing (replacing) an existing image on a photograph of a book with a new image. Is it OK to post here or should I hop over to a different part of the forum?

Hi there, Taz....

I've moved you thread here to the appropriate General Photoshop Area.

Just fire away .... and don't forget to include your images. That way we have a clearer idea of what you may need to do .

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay.......

Cheers.

Thank you! So here's the thing. Am trying to replace the image from the wedding couple to another (I've used a pic of my daughter to trial this). It looks a little clunky though. Are there any tips or techniques that would help me to do a more professional job?

Many thanks!

You've don a fantastic job! Great job matching the blur.

There are a few minor tweaks that might help it out.

Notice the areas I have pointed out with the arrows.
White arrows show the highlighted and shadowed area of the back edge of the book.
Red arrow shows a lighting reflection on the book that is not part of the image.
Blue arrows show the highlight on the front edge of the cover.

Now lets add these to the newer version.

(I exaggerated some areas so they would be obvious)

Edit: Darkened the lower corner (child's right arm) a little.
Don't know if that helped much...

Thank you SO much for your reply and very kind comments. It's the first time I've had a shot at something like this, so I'm chuffed that someone hasn't replied with, "Hahaha! What the hell have you done?!?"

I see exactly how you've lifted and given a more 3-d property to the book, particularly down the spine. Can I ask what tool/technique did you use to create the shadow/highlights?

I'm am beyond giddy at getting to grips with more of Photoshop - suspect this forum will become a second home ;-)

So giddy, it would seem I've lost my ability to type! ;-)
Don't feel like your alone..........happens to me all the time.

This forum is certainly my second home................as well as an obsession!

I'm glad your giddy............again, your not alone! :rocker:

There may be others who have different suggestions than mine.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Ditto the others, great job!

You've done more than just a good job Taz.
I look forward to see more of your work here.

Ah, fanks. As a bird who just 'does a bit from home' whilst looking after a couple of childabeasts, this sort of comment is a massive confidence booster. So genuinely thanks all. As an update, I sent the revised image to the potential client who LOVED it. Who knew? She's going to send me a bundle of images to impose 'stuff' upon. Look out for 'how do I wrap this around loo roll' kind of posts ;-)

Massive thanks for welcome all! *air kiss*

No worries......we can do loo roll.

Regards.
MrTom.

Ha! Fabulous! Thanks again for replies! Have lost many hours today chasing links and tuts for stuff I may never have to do :)
