Healing brush "aligned sample" is not working

I got a problem which is probably a Photoshop bug (CS6 12.3). I am curious if someone else faced this issue.

When using a healing brush I turn off "aligned sample" checkbox but it still continue taking sample every time when I move the cursor, while I need to take it once.

This is a very annoying behavior because I cannot use this tool to paint over something relatively large with one color/pattern that I need.

Are there any workarounds?

Thank you

use it once then click out of it by clicking on another tool then go back to it, it should be reset and waiting for the next sample. But I may not understand your prob......

Even when I turned off "aligned sample" when I move the mouse I always see a cross nearby which means it is taking a sample. E.g. when this cross is located over some black color and I am painting over something white, it gets covered with black.

You don't have sticky on your keyboard do you, it sounds like your option button is sticking that's the only way would it work at least On a mac

Look for a Small triangular shape in the menu bar brushes/ tool follow its lead I'm on iPhone to small to detail, maybe another can pickup from here

Ok. I reset it but still have the same problem.
"aligned sample" is unchecked but I can still see the cross, see the attachment.

are you apply to new blank layers or right on the original layers?

open a new layer (blank) apply your edit on that then try. Always use a new layer or mask when doing things like that, you can not edit what you've applied if you don't........ but I'm still not understanding your problem.

tried with a new layer and got the same effect :(

Im still confused here, are you trying to produce the top part of that image, using healing brush tool? I'f that's the case, aint going to happen.

I think sam or someone did up a tutorial for you on this, am I correct? If so I suggest you give it a shot. It was well presented. that should be a 20 minute process, give or take a few minutes.

Guys, thank you for your explanation regarding the WTC1, it was very helpful

Here I have an absolutely different problem, I was using that image only to show you that "aligned sample" checkbox is unchecked but the cross is still visible.

I have this problem with all tools that have "aligned sample" checkbox. These tools acting like this checkbox is always on. It means that I always see the cross nearby. So I cannot take sample once and use it all around the image. It takes sample every time when I move the cursor.

Did you solve your problem with the healing brush? I think I know what you are doing. There are two tools. One is the healing brush tool and the other is the spot healing brush tool. To manually set the sampling site, use the healing brush tool. Hold down alt/opt and click the relative area you want the "cloning" to come from. Like to the left or below, etc. Now switch to the spot healing brush tool and click away until you have to reposition the sampling area. At least that is my understanding of the tool, though I've never read or watched a tutorial. PS window instructed me. I f you're using the healing brush tool, I think you will always get the cross.

Clare is right, the HEALING BRUSH TOOL with the "aligned sample" NOT checked, the sampled spot will stay in the same place no matter where you apply the brush! If you sample a bird........no matter where you place the brush, you get the bird.

If the "aligned sample" is checked, option click to sample, the first brush click away from the selected area activates the function and the sampled spot will move with the brush in the exact same orientation and distance from the original sampled area.
