Hello Everyone,

I have finally taken the step to learn PS. I have been putting it off and mainly use lightroom but now want to enhance my photo editing to the next level. I am a wedding and portrait photographer and my main ask is how can i independently sharpen and enhance the background image of buildings making it look more HDR without effecting the couple/subject within the frame? Trying to create dark and moody pictures is the effect i am going for. I have recently been glued to youtube and learning layers/layer masking so have some knowledge of PS.

Appreciate any help you can provide.

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to PSG.

Remember, this is only one opinion. Simply stated, HDR imaging is subjective and reliant on the personal taste of the individual creating and/or viewing. It's heavily overused and dated and most high end photographers are moving away from the effect. A little HDR goes a long way! Use it sparingly if at all. You can accomplish dark and moody without HDR.

There is way too much information on the net and YT about HDR to really offer you much advice here. You need to continue what your doing by researching until you find a suitable technique that you find desirable.

Layer masking is the single most important component of Photoshop you will ever need to learn besides the Pen Tool!

Good luck.
