Having a serious issue with gradients..

All my gradients are the same color. When I make a gradient, whether it be from pastels, metals, whatever, IT IS ALWAYS THE SAME DARK GREY COLOR!

This is driving me insane. I have tried everything... messed around with the gradient editor, the fore/background colors, everything.

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

That's really odd. The only thing I can think of is that possibly your Mode for the gradient isn't set to 'normal'. In my experience, setting a blending mode to something like luminosity just turns things grey. If that's not it, than I can't help you. Sorry.
