Halp! Get a texture affect! Brush or filer to stroke??

Anyone have an idear how the texture affect that is going on around the hand/coaster here? Was this a brush or an affect done to a stroke?

add a stroke to your shape to the thickness you want it right click the little fx in the layers pallete on that layer and select create layers,

This will now put that stroke onto its own layer

either duplicate the stroke layer and slightly enlarge it so that will be the broken edges effect and set that layer blending mode to dissolve the lower the opacity the more frosting effect you will get.

Any idea how that same affect is done on the gradients? ie the dark aqua color, & red hand fading/dissolving into the light yellow/paper color

add a layer mask to each layer you want to fade into the background and use a black and white gradient on the layer mask itself not the layer.

For the background here is another option:

• set up your colored gradient then add noise, a low amount, uniform distribution; add a higher level of noise or try gaussian instead of uniform to vary the noise level
• make your gradient layer a smart object
• run a black/white gradient across the filter mask so that you have less noise/more solid color at the top of the blue gradient
• add a layer mask to the smart object and paint with black to further dissolve the bottom border where it fades into the cream color (once you have any objects in place)

You have no clue how to make such a thing, yet your phrase and word choice is very knowledgeable in this subject?
Some thing fish like swims me thinks...
