I was an AVID photographer for many years - from junior high school through and a bit after college I ate, slept and dreamed photography. Then I got a temporary job to see me through until I could get work as a pro photographer, preferably for LIFE magazine (the original, REAL one). To my utter surprise and horror, the final issue of LIFE hit the newsstands at the same time I started the temporary job. 38 1/2 years later, I retired from the temporary job and now I'm trying to catch up. I have THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of negatives that have never been printed. Most of them are my pictures, but many of them are old family photographs, including things such as pictures in San Francisco from 1907 (possibly some earlier), family vacation slides by the hundreds, and lots of other things. I am slowly scanning as I find the time (I never thought about the fact that retiring meant I would never again have weekends off!).

Unfortunately, I have never taken good care of my negatives. As a yearbook photographer and later head photographer for my college newspaper, I only cared about that one shot that would be used right away. And the older negatives have been shuffled around in shoeboxes, envelopes, and just stacks from house to house over the last hundred or more years. SO - I need to do a LOT of restoration and retouching. One roll of B&W film I ran across recently was one that my father took while serving in the South Pacific during WWII. It is BADLY damaged, probably from the heat and humidity of the Phillipines, but I am managing to save some of the images (though re-creating them may be a better description!).
I'm a low-mid-level Photoshop user, having used the CS5 enhanced version for the last couple of years. But since I don't use it all-day, every day, I still have a LOT to learn. And who knows, maybe I can help someone who has a question that I can actually answer!

Looking forward to fun and lots of learning!
