If you have a high quality graphics card and monitor, will your images/projects look better when viewed by others on their own monitors/laptops....

vs. using lower quality graphics card and monitor?

In the world of audio production, which i am more familiar with....there exists "translation". Which is making your audio mix/final master sound good on everything, from the speakers on a laptop, to a high end audio system. Experience plays a large role in achieving this, but so does the quality your equipment you recorded with i.e microphones, preamps, sound card, plugins etc

and i am wondering if that exists when it comes to graphic design...will the same project done on my laptop, look the same done on an expensive monitor and desktop with an expensive graphics card....

Nice question fella and yes it's actually very different than audio scenario.. here's why :

1. Let's suppose you have a creative sound blaster full duplex sound card and I have a very old builtin soundcard ... will you and I get the same experience while playing the audio ?

2. As long as photoshop is concerned you do require good hardware but in the end the other person might not be able to see your high resolution JPG or PNG or whatever your output is. (but to be honest it's very very rare co'z viewing an image really depends on your processor and ram etc.)

3. Now let's talk about your Monitor / Graphic Card question, it's something like comparing a latest 22" Sony LED to a 17" Non Flat 1998 Model Samsung Monitor which will obviously loose in this battle..

4. Same rules applied for 3D renders and models / animations / videos etc...

so basically as long the client's hardware ain't tooo old, viewing a simple design (IMAGE!) shouldn't be a problem...

sorry if I misunderstood your question or vise versa.
