Hi guys,
I work in PS CS2, and I would like to know some basic techniques for "cleaning" this jpegs as being extracted from a dvd often look quite fuzzy, so that they look quality enough to print on a larger scale!
I'm happy for all kinds of help in advance!!
Cheers guys,
m

edit: oh yeah and can someone also redirect to a good tool for capturing stills? I used vlc player so far, but it only gives out png's...probably not the best format.

Honestly, there isn't an easy way to do this, I suppose I'd recommend using filter->noise->despeckle, and filter->noise->reduce noise. Other than that, you'll need to go in and blur, clone and heal by hand whatever is left.

keep in mind that standard dvd resolution is 720x480 at 72dpi. So even after you've cleaned it up you're still going to have to stretch it over 450% to get an 8x10 print at standard print resolution (300 dpi).

png's aren't bad actually, in my opinion they're second only to TIFF's for image quality. So as long as you're getting decently sized images, you may as well stick with your program.

Also just to make sure you know, ripping stills like this is most likely illegal (at least in the US), because you're using someone else's intellectual and legal property for purposes which they did not intend, without their permission. Whatever you do, don't sell these prints - you'll be just asking for trouble.
