Getting rid of white borders on .png images without damaging it

I need to get rid of these white speckle borders on all of my PNG images. I'd show you an example but I can't do links yet. I'll try attaching it.

Use the pen tool and select just within the line where it starts to turn white and delete it tedious but simple
 
You could probably also used the polygonal lasso tool
 
It's hard to tell what's the proper image and what is border. The border kinda mixes with the proper colors.
 
You need to seriously zoom in on it as big as you can to get the best results
 
You could also ctl/cmd click on the thumbnail, go to select>contract, 1 pixel, then manually clean up the remainder with an eraser or mask. I think the mask is better because if you slip you just go back with white brush and add it back in, instead of fooling around with ctlZ or history palette. When you're satisfied, right click the mask and apply.
