right, there's only so far i can go with these games as i don't have 3DS HOWEVER, having said that, i have been able to use photoshop to a great advantage.

the game that i have Re-textured is 11 years old this year, it's Ghost Recon, but don't let that put you off ;)

Please double click for a high quality version ;)

I would love to know your thoughts on these re textures, some of them, like the door texture, have been edited from a single (or two) photo(s).

P.S The barn is meant to be dark, (it's originally a night map) when i took the screenshot it didn't match the ground very well, this has been taken care of since then ;)

Good retexture! Love'm when you compare them with what games were all about 10 years ago :D. I know ghost recon only by name, as you know, Ghost Recon FT has come out recently ;)

I was playing Ghost Recon the other day in my office (I had installed it YEARS ago and almost forgot it) ... and was wondering about the graphic qualities.. and there you have it... Zeealex does the retexturing to the game...

Nicely executed Mate... Cheers

you should fake occulsion in your shaders if your game engine doesnt support it. Even if it does occlusion on flat surfaces like the barn door where the different woods meet eachother would need shadows to seperate them. Occlusion shadows is basicly the dark shadow that appears when you put a object ontop of a surface and a dark shadow apears between them if that makes sence. In game shadow engines cant do this in most cases and it will add a lot of depth to you image.

Here is an image i made in Maya and Zbrush. http://www.martinprestegaard.com/portfolio/3dVillage.htm

on the lower part of the page u cna see a black and white occlusion pass thats what i mean by occlusion.

unfortunately on this game it's hard to add the occlusion you speak of as the textures used are usually used somewhere else, therefore it would look odd. it does use a lighting map though, i may see if i can get it to work

no it doesn't and the engine is unknown, it's not a game i've built i've just textured it. ;)

ok well on another note a way for your textures to seem less repeating is to add dirt on top of them. Ideally you’d want to do something like they did in dead space (where there is blood every where on the walls) and add a new model that’s just a flat polygon with a transparent blood texture on it and apply it on top of your barn model. Instead of blood you could do dirt ofc.

if you cant do that in ur engine either i would suggest you try and download Unreal engine and make your own world or change the textures of some of theirs it will give you a lot more freedom and its not too difficult to learn. If u want to become a texture artist i would suggest you get a basic understanding of 3d modelling and if you want to do games how an engine like unreal works.

Would you mind giving me a copy of these textures?
I like em', Plus I have ghost recon still.
So I can HIT THEM UP!

i'm still working on them, i hope to have the mod released sometime in november. if you go to Ghostrecon.net, sign up and go to the "Full ghost Recon Retexturing Project" thread, all the news is in there ;)

they aren't up for editing unless you are part of that community and you share alike unfortunately

just reviving this thread, one of the images, the first one i believe has a more realistic water texture than the old one no?

well i played around with the alpha channel a bit and i got it to look a LOT better.

Before: Solid and Opaque, much like gloss or goo.
ScreenShot59-1.jpg

After: alpha Channel has been optimised to make the river transparent, while harnessing it's reflectivity.
ScreenShot73-1.jpg

It's also had vast advances since then but this is the closest anyone has got to realistic water in this game I believe

Go n do a re-texture of 'Morpheus', a classic map by Dave Ewing, from Unreal Tournament GOTY 1998, i still play this DM everyday,.or 'Tempest' by CliffyB,....13 years later, still solid. Unreal Engine & Nvidia ROCKS!

I'm partial to a bit of 'two worlds' myself. :)
