I'm always real short on cash, so I was wondering whether there's a good freeware (preferably open-source) alternative to photoshop? I have already tried Paint.NET, which seems a decent choice for simple editing, and Gimp, which I really didn't like that much. Any others worth checking out?

Gimp is free you can even download a mod to make it look similar to photoshop.

However Gimp may not be as well kitted out as photoshop but it is good so I hear

hey!

check here for a wide selection of free and cheap photoshop alternatives.

i am able to help out with any GIMP questions you may have ;)

You can even convert it into gimpshop, so it looks more like Photoshop. Though I believe it works best on Linux from what I have heard on forums, and I haven't tried it on windows.

gimp was very unstable, prone to crashing, when i tried it. that's some time ago though, i'm sure they've made a bunch of bug-fixes since then. gotta give it a second change

well there are other alternatives, if you just want to lightly edit something then use photoshop express ;)
