Football Photoshop Images

Hey There Football king. The best technique for cutting out that Football helmet is to use the "Free Select Tool" and make individual clicks around the edges of the helmet (do not click and drag) and you'll get little circles on your lines where you've clicked like these:
Free select.png

the free select tool will smooth off any rough edges when you've finished your selection. do the basic outline of

the helmet first, as shown here:

Screenshot 56-2.png

to finish your selection, just make your last click meet up with where the line starts, it will automatically 'snap' to the start point if you hover your mouse near it. once you've got the marching ants outline (black and whit dots) around the helmet on your screen, it means you've completed a selection, go to Edit>copy start a new image, configure the size and background colour to your liking, then go to Edit>Paste as> New layer. from here, use the same selection technique to remove the background from the face guard area. in the end you should get something like this sample i made quickly:

if you need any elaboration just gimme a bell ;)

That's perfect. I'm not sure how to add the visor like the blue helmet has tho. Can you take off the Sample?

adding a visor would be a tricky one to do, gimp's a little finnicky, but if you wanna learn i'm sure i can help you out.

and I shall I'm just sorting a few things out in Ubuntu, back in two. in the meantime feel free to give it a try! :D

I can't help you with Gimp, but I would suggest that to get a really pro-level result, there are lots of other little tweaks that would probably also be done. For example, the helmet is probably white, but it appears in that photo as an underexposed off-white. That would be fixed. The finish of the helmet would likely be smoothed, a fake star was added to the example you cited, the reflections removed from the blue fill in the letter, etc. You might also want to learn the GIMP techniques for accomplishing tweaks such as these. Don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers,

thanks for that Tom :)

the best way of adding a visor is to use the free select tool and select the area where the visor should be. then, on a new layer, use the gradient tool with the Rounded Edge gradient on the area, then play around with it and the colours and layer opacity until you are happy :)
