Fixing Photo Edges

Alright so after I've superimposed a head onto a new photo there is this edge of off shade color around the edges of the head I've superimposed. I see it a lot on others work and occasionally in B movies. It makes the picture look fake. Almost immediately I can tell that the picture doesn't go with the background. Is there a way to get rid of that?

You'll need to show an example there are many ways to fix what you describe

I couldn't find a way to upload the image to the thread so I put it on photobucket. So here is an image that I worked on a little bit. I'm sure I'm a ways a way from some of you so feel free to give any pointers.

You can see though in the image that the head doesn't look like it belongs on the picture. It looks like it's sitting on top of the original instead of being a part of it. I put an arrow but I'm sure it will be obvious.

you need to work on the shadows (lighting) on his face try to create the same lighting angles as the other guys face

yeah I figured that was all it was. That is pretty difficult. I tooled around with the color adjustment for awhile and couldn't really get it where I wanted. Thanks though. I'll work on it.

not really hard at all select half his face /neck area (go with contour of face, not a straight line) feather a few pixels then use levels or shadow filters, I think that will help a lot

After you get the lighting correct, you can also use a soft small smudge tool at low opacity around the edge of the pasted head to soften the transition.
