First ever painting

Thanks Guys..

This really is my first attempt... I have never done a painting before now...

One of the things i struggle with doing manips is things like over painting.. like painting on some hair after cutting out a model or something like that.

So i search for Photoshop painting tutorials and came across a tut that i thought was really good on how to paint... this of course side track me from what i was looking for as it was for land scape scenery..

I only actually used 2 x standard chalk brushes out of Photoshop's basic brush set and the pen tool, and one mist brush i found to do all of it. then did some colour balancing and filters etc ..

The main thing i gain from the tut was not just how to build up layers of colour, but also how to use the brush tool pre sets and they way you can manipulate the tool its self, Angle of brush tip, textures, and more just for one brush and the effect they can give.

Thanks again all...

What? You completely created this? Not painted over a scene? That is incredible. I enlarged it all the way and one wire doesn't touch a tower, but who cares! Very minor compared to the effort, skill, and imagination. Do you paint outside of PS?

I pleasantly anticipate your 2nd painting too!

But wait, was this daytime art therapy on the ward?

Hi all and thanks again everyone..

I'm amazed myself i even got this far with it, after watching the painting tut i got the idea for the scene as doing another part of the arrival images ( you know ?.. them pod things i did ).. this was going to be part 3. which was going to be titled " where they came from".

I didn't paint over anything or other scene .. just came up with it.. i thought about what sort of land they might have come from and what sort of craft the pods would have been drop from them. as the alien has sharp teeth, tail and claws i painted the craft in the sky with spikes and the long spike like nose of the craft. i also colored it in the same way as the arrival scenes which had a touch of purple/magenta in them.

The top of the rock towers is meant to represent their dwellings also with spikes and tall rods etc , and linked together with wires for coms ( well apart from the 1 that you notice that is ).

I did this one at home whilst on day release from the ward. If i had done this as day time therapy in there it would have look more like a peed on water color rather than a painting seeing as i would have been hug up by me feet in the jacket and had the brush in my moth, all that together with not being able to use to loo, well hence the water color.

I have never painted outside PS or ever before until this. The tut help me a lot on how to build up the colors etc and use the brushes, but the scene and everything else i did my self after watching the tut. The tut was more in depth than the image i did and i'm not up to that standard by far, I am watching more tuts on this subject as its getting me use to painting. This will eventually hep me get back to the painting of hair and background scenes for manips.

Thank you.

Just add to the above... Although i have never painted before, my daughter dos, and draws as well, hes a picture of Marilyn Monroe she drew on a canvas, i thinks its really good. Please ignore the time date as this set om camera.

She's fantastic. I hope she takes up a career in art.

Would you post a couple of those tutorials? I'd like to look at them. My drawing and painting attempts on PS have been pretty pitiful and it would be fun to get some tips. You did a great job. I figured they'd wait to put the str8 jacket on you until they saw your painting!

Very, very good first attempt. You'll be able to get some tips off your daughter too. The Marilyn Monroe looks good.

Try creating more detail to the blocking work and also adding more bright tones to the foreground. Also plan your composition for the scene.

Good work :)
