Rather nice day outside today, so i made the most of it.

IMGP3820 Heavy Edit.jpg
(yes, the spider one has been edited, it was hilariously overexposed PLEASE FULL SIZE IT)

IMGP3808-.jpg

Got more on the way, it's a case of cropping and zooming them there's one i've grown rather fond of, you probably won't see it, but i do :P

but for now, what do you think?

are you faking DOF or are you rocking a macro lesns the aperature seems to be around the 2.8 mark but doesnt seem to be falling right in the blur settings

Love the spider! You say it was overexposed, did you take it in raw or jpeg? then what editing did you do to reduce the light? I'm just asking because the spider seems to 'glow'. Plus, same as hoogle, what lens did you use?

Sorry for so many questions, I'm just a bit of a photography fan.
(Oh yeah, and the awful English, you wouldn't think I was taking it as a subject would you?)

I was using Macro mode if that's any help. or as linux states; Creative Program Mode, Biased toward Depth of Field

@TiMmy, i shot in JPEG as my Pentax suite doesn't work onLlinux (meaning i can't shoot .PEF RAW). and used Photoshop to curve out the exposure. The lens is the standard DAL 18-55mm one i got with the camera.

No worries about the Q's and your English is fine! :P

Ooh, another unix user. Pentax K-r I guess? Also, 18-55 and you managed to get that close to the flower? Was that the whole photo you've uploaded or have you cropped?

As for the english, the wording may have been alright but the grammar has gone!

This is the one i grew fond of,

Apologies over the defined noise, i've had to sharpen it due to the zoom.

Bird.jpg
i just like the coinsidence of the bird's direction and the plane's.

you dont need the pentax suite adobe will recognise your RAW files. You just need Adobe bridge to browse them and open them in ACR to tweak them and the new ACR is better than cs5 if you are rocking cs6 beta. Or lightroom 4

Raw takes more effort but gives you so much more flexibility.

Ps macro modes are not so good your best of still shooting in manual mode. and if you cant afford a macro lens get an extension tube for abour £30 that will convert any of your lenses into a macro lense it works really well and I have even done it to a 200- 400 mm telephoto lense. I need a new set though as I left mine out in the field the other week.

They will also give your lens upto 2X focal lengths so 18- 55 kit lens can be converted to 36 -110 making it almost a telephoto lens. far cheaper than spending £700 on a macro lens

Good at focusing not a lot of detail for it to lock onto. That noise is easy to fix though get a soft brush sample the blue colour and set the brush mode to darken and paint over it at about 20% opacity.

I can see what you mean about liking the relationship between the bird and the plane, it's cool, I hate shooting birds though, as they are so hard to capture!

I find macro lens almost pointless, huge amount of money for something that can only shoot one style of photo, if you want to buy a new lens you can go for a telephoto which doubles as a false macro, more flexibility!

(p.s. is the plural of lens lens?)

Ooh, another unix user. Pentax K-r I guess? Also, 18-55 and you managed to get that close to the flower? Was that the whole photo you've uploaded or have you cropped?

yup! Faithful little K-r it crashed out on me before, the cheeky little swine! :P
yup, full 55mm focal length, and a Biased DOF, so the focus ring could get a hold of the detail, yeah, that's the whole photo, i had to reduce the overall size for it to fit on the forum.

@hoogle, i tried came up with "it's not the right kind of file" i need the Pentax Suite to convert it, if i can get bridge to work in wine, i'll try it, i'll shoot DNG next time.

Yup figured it out the hard way, all of the spider shots were overexposed and blurred, hence why the spider's a bit Glow-ey, i have got manual mode and Av shots too but they aren't very clear as the camera had crashed out before hand and got a little clunky.

Extension tubes are on my list of things to get, at the moment though i'm in need of new boots.

Lolz, never thought of that, i'll give it a run now.

I was going to get a K-r! but there was a deal on where I got a nice shiny telephoto for a fraction of its price if I bought a different camera, so I got that.

And wow, its amazing that you managed to get that close with just a 18-55! You're a wine user? do you run your adobe suit through it?

Questions again. Sorry! :S

The K-r is brill! love it, it has a few issues, but they are so easy to come to terms with. but hey, can't turn down an offer like that!

yeah, i was surprised it let me get that close, usually it gets all BLEH with me if i get that close. Yup Wine user, got a legitimate copy of photoshop CS5 working under it, blooming pain in the crack to install and set up though!

Don't worry 'bout the Q's they aren't personal so i'm not fussed.

From what I've seen of my friend's K-r they do look cool!

I never take close ups with my 18-55 just cause you have to get so close! I like to just flip to the telephoto and stand back.
Wine is a pain to set up, but an awesome tool. (As long as the program you want has support)

Ok. note to self, no personal questions to be aimed at Zeealex...

they are very cool, very versatile cameras, it's a shame people are liking Canon and Nikon too much to care for a glance at pentax's Super fast cameras, at 6fps continuous shoot it's the fastest entry level on the market today. and it comes in all sorts of colours and for a DSLR it's tiny, size of my hand and that isn't exactly the biggest hand in the world.

yeah, unfortunately they arent the best for close ups, but they do a fair good job for general photography, i've found them quite handy for portraits.

i don't mind, you know, stuff like "how old are you?" but it's the invasive stuff like "where do you live" "what's your number" that i begin to feel uncomfortable

I know what you mean about the canon and nikon, my friend wants to get his first DSLR and hes going straight for a canon, I asked him if he wants another camera and he said no. canon.

What sort of lenses can they attatch? are they pentax only lenses?

I'll bear that in mind for the future.

You are not really taking into consideration why high end photographers choose either NIkon or Canon yeah if your budget is £500 or less then get value for money and the best camera you can for that money. Infact the KR is in many ways better than the budget Nikon D3000 has more features but when the KR is almost £100 more expensive you should expect that.

However when you are starting to look at mid level and high end DSLRS which I admit not many people really need them unless photography is a real passion then yes they leave competition behind even Sony have announced they can not compete against the big boys in the professional range and sony DSLRs are good but fail to impress beyond the £500 mark.

An FX camera will always be superior to a DX and over the next 3 years we are going to see some major changes look at the new Nikons

can autofocus in the tiniest amount of moonlight
shooting 36 MP on a dslr which is going to replace the medium format camera market soon enough (I predict)
Iso ranges now being from 50 all the way upto 300,000
shooting amazing HD Video.

And not just that but the 3rd Party equipent available to Nikon and Canon users is far greater you can probably get 4 X's the amount of lenses for hese 2 companies from giants like nikon and canon + sigma, Tamron being major players in the lens market and many more specialist makers and just darn right cheap versions.

Would I own A Kr probably would as a back up camera if I could pick 1 up cheap they are a good camera I would love something like that so it is small easily portable and dont have to worry about it to much. I am not going to lie Nikons do seem to attract a lot of interest from dodgey people as people know they are worth some money.

Also been getting into a lot of trouble when you have the gear and big lenses Security will often tell you that you are not allowed to take pictures at venues and you have to get permits etc. So thee will always be a place for cameras like the KR But if I had no Budget I would buy Nikon hands down.

oh and The D4 and D800 infact most the top end Nikon DSLRs are shooting at 11FPS and can shoot up to 200 images in burst mode. before the buffer needs a break.

Yeah, very insightful but I was just saying canon and nikon aren't the only players who the heck would want a 36MP cam anyway? Pentax have a 40MP one too. And that's high end, 6Fps for an entry level SLR is Very fast. Anyway, let's not turn this into a camera debate eh?
