Fading / Blending

Hi, im rather new to Adobe Photoshop. Love the program, but struggling with 1 thing - can ANYBODY PLEASE HELP????

I need to design graphics for a vehicle. Background bitmap needs to fade out / become more transparent. The transparency settings doesn't do the trick for me - or am I just not doing it right. I also need to blend 2 nature images into each other and I don't want to see definate lines??

Any expert with suggestions?

Layer Mask Ftw

Layer mask(s) for the nature photos I would use a brush or gradient, and for the car graphic you can do the same thing, Gradients make it look cleaner but depending on ur image.
