Hi just tried pen tool for cutting out , its bit slow but better than the extract tool , extract tool always eats the picture from inside wheater smoot option set to 0 or 100 + history brush isn't easy to do on that hollow picture. what u say ? adobe has to make it better in future or totally remove the extract tool.

:bustagut: I might even launch Knockout for those, well, the first two. #3 would be easy because of the white background.

Hey Evil Nemesis. Can you post the image or a scaled version of the image you are working on? Each image has many possible approaches, we could possibly suggest some technique you haven't thought to try.

Here's an example Birdy using Knockout2. Forget the extract tool for most images. It will do okay on simple subjects with a plain background but that it. If you do (or are going to be doing) a lot of knockout work then this software rocks. :righton:

Oho! Nice job Lee. I know you have mentioned Knockout on several occasions see that you have mastered the more subtle tricks to using it. :righton:

Thanks, Welles. Yeah, I will have to admit, I love this plug-in. Kinda hard not to love something that makes your life so much easier on difficult items like glass, hair etc. :)

hmm I can buy that easily , well can u tell me how exactly it works so good ? As photoshop uses color technique to seperate things from their backgrounds.

That's a great job, Lucifer. :righton:

Do you have any tips? With my few tests of the extract tool, your job borders on magic, but then I've used Knockout since before the extract tool existed.

well can u tell me how exactly it works
Sorry, Evil, I don't have a clue. You'd have to ask the good folks at Corel.

I don't understand why people would spend $99 on a plugin if it can also be done with Photoshop,
I'm gonna have to write this date down. Your example aside, you're one of the first people I have ever talked to that actually likes the Extract tool and thinks it does a good job.

Lee,

I went and tried the Extract tool for about a half an hour yesterday and couldn't come up with anything close to the example Lucifer has shown, so I have to admit that I have a hard time believing it. There must be aspects of that tool which I just don't grasp.

I'd love to be told how the edge detail was saved and then in the inside of the seed puff, itself, how the green tint was eliminated. I couldn't come close with Extract whereas your result with Knockout I can easily understand, with the syringe tools and all.

Hi, done in Photoshop with extract, took me at the most 2 minutes. Better results if you spend a few more minutes on it. I must admit, I've used extract a lot in the past so I have a good understanding as how to use it.
I don't understand why people would spend $99 on a plugin if it can also be done with Photoshop, at least that's my opinion

...I can't read anywhere that I said that the extract tool does a good job Lee

...but I can tell you this that the actual extraction was 100% done by using the extract tool and 1 other action

Sorry, dude, but you did say that you used the Extract Tool "100%" and were pleased with the results. Hense, my comment about you liking the Extract Tool.. And I don't think I or Welles ever said that Knockout 2 was the "ultimate solution." I just provided an example of what it can do because I do believe it is far superior to the Extract Tool.

And, yes, many procedures can be done in Photoshop instead of using plug-ins but why would you want to if the plug-in is faster and just as good? I can make smoke and fire in PS, too. I just don't care to waste my time. Thank you anyway for the suggestion of doing everything in PS but I'll stick to plug-ins if they do the same or better job in PS and save me time. You know the old saying, "Time is money."

Hi Lucifer,

Rather than challenge your skills, I was hoping for some tips on how to use the Extract tool. Learning...learnin...learning...the Zen of PS.

Cheers!

I tried this one,did it quick and sleezy in a minute and i hope i can explain it to you in english.
First you open the channels pallet and duplicate the blue channel. Select the copy of the blue channel and select Image, adjustments, levels. Now use the sliders to make the blackparts blacker and the white parts whiter. The remaining parts in the woman that are grey i burned with the burn tool. Now you have a channel layer with just the black and white. Then you can use the magic hand to select the white or black (the woman).
Then select your original image and make the cut.

Hope it helps...
