Export Transparent Image in CS4

I just upgraded to CS4 and have come across something curious. In previous versions, to export a transparent image, you would go to "help" and select "export transparent image." No such thing in CS4 (that I can find).

I am trying to create a transparent image to place in InDesign so that I can wrap text around my image. But when I save it as a PSD, it doesn't allow the text wrap. Help!

I'm having this same problem to a degree. I've created transparent backgrounds on images, saved them as both jpg and tif to only have the white background appear when I place them in Indesign. Where did the "export transparent image" option go???

What I really find interesting is that this question has received over 400 views but no responses posted to help solve the dilemma.

Really, guys, can't see any problems here:)

First of all, jpg and tif inherently don't support transparency(well, may be except some Clipping path in tiff).

I just never used "export transparent image" option. Simply saved as GIF with transparency option checked. Or use PNG to have semi-transparency.

Just saved image with transparency to GIF, PNG, PSD. Placed them all in InDesign over text block, chose appropriate Text Wrap options and all worked perfectly.

TIFF is open tagged file format that enables anyone save anything he wishes under some tags. As a result - there are no "standard" or "required" tags.

Some programs may feel free to add there own tags(so called private tags), but there is no guarantee other programs would recognize it.

Adobe honestly warnes you with the warning message about these implications when you try to check this option .

Anyway, back to topic. TIFF with transprency also worked well with wrapping text.

transport transparent image problems

I think the problem or difference from the older PHotoshop and the new is that when a tranparent image was saved in the past (under the help section export transparent...)
the image saved was the outline of the transparent image. Now what we get is a block around the image and yes it is transparent but sometimes causes problems.
Is there a way to save a transparent image with the outline of the shap instead of a block.

I have found so far that the saving as a PNG is useless. It does nothing, and offers no option for saving as transparency. When placed, it is not transparent in any way. This is really a let down as far as PS goes because they fixed something that wasn't broken. I do a lot of video work and need to save transparent PNG files. The last version I had that would allow the export transparent image option was CS. As far as I can see now, the option doesn't exist.

I'm using CS4, and it supports PNG transparency perfectlly. It offers no option for saving as transparency because there is no need to - it takes all the transparency info right from PSD file.

Placed semi-transparent PNG in InDesign, Illustrator, MS Word, MS Power Point, etc - everything is OK.

CS4 is little complicated because most people used older versions of Adobe and as you now there are always problems in coming versions but after some time it is going to be like a cake.

Thanks for your reply. I'm using CS4 also, soon to upgrade. The problem is that I was not working with a transparent image to begin with. Before, with the old wizard, you could easily export a flattened image. All you needed to do was magic wand, or outline the area desired. Now, it will not export flattened images, but I found the way to do it by double clicking the background layer, hit ok, magic wand the area, then delete the backround. Everything works great. What I needed it do was create video masks and web images, so now I'm set.

i had the same problem, saved as png and it had a black background. this fixed it for me:
layer/matting/remove black matte
then save as png and it was transparent.
