Exclude overlapping shape areas problem:

I am taking a tutorial and I'm stuck. I'm trying to "exclude overlapping shape areas", but when I click on that button above, nothing happens. I'm trying to punch a hole through the circle basically. It's strange because this process worked earlier for me, but now it's giving me trouble. Here are some pictures to better explain what I mean. The first picture is the tutorial. The second picture is a screen shot from my project. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time. :)

Over to the right, you have a selection for Layers, Channels and Paths. Click on Paths and you should be able to see all of the paths. Delete the one you don't need. Just drag it to the trash can or select it and click on the trash.

ALB Laser Engraver: Thanks for the reply. I deleted that path and it created the rest of the page red. So that didn't help weh.

Colleague: I'm kinda a noob. What exactly do I do to remedy this?

Thanks guys

ALB Laser Engraver: I clicked on the wrong layer as you can see my noobness. When I deleted the path it just made the whole page black.

Edit/ Undo or Ctrl Z. If you had saved your work prior to this, shame on you if you didn't, you can do File Revert. History may also allow to recover them.

Hey xstian,

I think Colleague is right.

You must click the "exclude overlapping shapes" button before you make the circular shape, otherwise you create a new shape layer instead. Also make sure you have the RED SHAPE layer highlighted as well.
