Editing letters

Hey guys! What's up?
Well a few months ago I made this X following a tutorial. However, I can't remember how I made it, nor can I find the tutorial again.
I'm not talking about the texture or the burned effect, just the part where I can make you "arm" of the X shorter and other longer. If anyone know how, please let me know, I'm pretty sure it's simple yet it's gone from my mind .

There's a number of possibilities. But let's go for the most basic....

Type X .

Rasterize the text layer.

Create marquee selections where applicable and delete........




Unless you prefer a harder way.....
