My friend has created a logo for me (using Illustrator I suspect) and has sent it to me as a PSD file so I can edit in Photoshop.

When I open it in PS it comes in as a Vector Smart Object. How do I open this to edit the font, textures etc and see the layers he used so I can hange the logo round a bit?

Thanks

Double click on the thumbnail to open it. When you are done, save it then close it. Sometimes I will duplicate the smart object layer so I have it in its original condition, turn off the eye. Then I edit the duplicate.

Hope this answers your question.

A Vector Smart Object will open and be editable in Illustrator. If you don't have Ai, or would prefer to edit it in Photoshop. Ask your friend to export from Ai as a .psd file, keeping maximum layer editability checked. That way you get seperate layers to work on in PS.

The downside to this is you lose the re-sizing strengths of Ai.

You will be able to edit it as a whole image, but without the layers.

The vector smart object remembers the Ai layers. When you convert to a PS smart object, it basically becomes 1 flat layer.

You need to weigh up in advance how much editing / resizing you are going to need. Then decide whether to leave as a VSO, or an exported PS layered file.
